As the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) finishes up their second week of striking, other retailers are noticing a spike in their sales. When visiting Metro the other day, we noticed that the wine shelves and beer coolers were practically empty. So, where is everyone stocking up these days? We took to social media to ask the question and got many answers!

The Beer Stores are still open and doing a brisk business, but if beer is not your thing, what do you do?

Many members of one Facebook group mentioned Mann’s Distillery on West Street as a popular alternative. Others highlighted various grocery stores that carry wine and beer, including Metro, Sobeys, and Walmart, along with the Wine Rack in Zehrs stores.

Additionally, some restaurants have stepped up with pop-up offerings. Vodka Friday posted:

“Cheers to staying open and keeping the spirits high! While LCBO is on strike, we’re here to save the day! Get your top-shelf, international award-winning Vodka Friday delivered directly to your favourite bars and restaurants. Order online at winecart.ca or pick up at Zander’s this Wednesday. Cheers to unbeatable prices and smooth sips!”

Meanwhile, the Ontario Government quickly rolled out a searchable digital map within days of the strike starting. This map helps citizens of Ontario find alternative locations to purchase alcohol while LCBO stores remain closed.

As the strike continues, it’s clear that Ontarians are finding creative ways to ensure their shelves and coolers stay stocked. Whether it’s turning to local distilleries, grocery stores, or new pop-up vendors, the community is adapting and finding new favourites along the way. Cheers to keeping spirits high, despite the strike!
